About
The focus of the Genes, RNA, Informatics, and Protein (GRIP) Laboratory is to understand the genetics of exercise and altitude adaptation, and study genetic approaches to doping control in sport. Work in our lab is directed at the investigation of the molecular basis of exercise and altitude adaptation with the goal of elucidating fundamental genes and biological mechanisms which maximize physical performance in humans under a variety of environmental stresses, namely altitude hypoxia. We are also conducting anti-doping research funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) with the goal of development of a prototype blood-based test for exogenous erythropoietin activity based on transcriptional profiling.
Lab Facilities:The GRIP Lab is located in the Wesbrook Building on the UBC campus in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is equipped with techniques and equipment necessary to study the molecular and genetic aspects of exercise and altitude adaptation. We also collaborate closely with other faculty in the School of Human Kinetics located in cardiovascular and respiratory exercise physiology labs in Osborne Centre, as well as Medical Genetics located in the new UBC Life Sciences Centre.
